Make sure you are not the only one who seems welcoming when showing a prospect around your club. Everyone on staff should be aware of a guest in the facility. It should be part of their duties to acknowledge the guest, say hello, introduce themselves or help the cause in some way.

This might be a simple as checking the appropriate locker room for cleanliness, or saying hi at the front desk when someone walks in — even if it’s not his or her job. I even like to get other members involved if they have an outgoing personality. It never hurts to say something like, “This is Jim he’s been with us forever and we just can’t seem to get rid of him. Ha Ha.” Typically the members will be more than happy to play along and even throw in a compliment or two about the club.

The more people are made to feel comfortable and welcome, the easier it is to ease them into your membership and make them a part of the family.
