Charter Fitness employees Dan Collins, the director of sales, and Roger McGreal, the director of personal training, will participate in the Ultimate Hike benefiting CureSearch for Children’s Cancer this Saturday, October 20.
Charter Fitness hopes to raise a minimum of $5,000 for CureSearch. To make a donation and support Collins’ and McGreal’s Charter Fitness Cares Team, visit the Charter Fitness blog at http://www.charterfitness.com/fitness-blog/donate.
Starting at around 3 a.m. on Saturday morning, the 30-mile Ultimate Hike will take Collins and McGreal 12-15 hours to navigate, and will take place along the Tecumseh Trail in Yellowwood State Forest in Nashville, Ind. The hike will raise money for CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to fund and support children’s cancer research.
“I have two kids and it just seemed like a really good cause to get behind,” said Collins. “It also presented a physical challenge for Roger and I.”
Collins and McGreal underwent 14 weeks of training to prepare for the trek. They were aided in their preparation by CureSearch, which helped them prepare training schedules and educated them on what to expect during their journey. The Charter Fitness duo will ascend close to 3,500 feet during the Ultimate Hike. “CureSearch does a great job in terms of support,” said Collins. “They’re very serious about it and want to make sure people are prepared to go.”
In addition to aiding them in preparation, CureSearch will have stations set up every five miles during the hike, equipped with food and water to aid the team. “I am very excited,” said Collins. “I’ve never done anything like this before.”
