The fitness industry has made, what appears to be, a successful move to India thanks to Bollywood film actors. The actors have increasingly appeared shirtless, exposing their fit physique. Bollywood is the Indian equivalent to the American Hollywood. Located in Mumbai, India, it is the largest film producer in the country. Fitness First, one of the world’s largest health and fitness clubs opened last year and took over the Indian business.
The company opened branches in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The future plans involve consistent growth throughout the rest of the region. The Club in Gurgaon – one of Delhi’s booming cities – provides a state-of-the-art 22,000 square foot club. It has 120 modern exercise machines, a large free weight area, studios for yoga, spinning and aerobics.
One of the gyms in New Delhi, Ozone, only costs 140 U.S. dollars a month to operate. The gym has three floors of exercise space and provides personal trainers, steam rooms and a juice bar. All indication has been that the market for fitness will continue to grow. The presence of fit actors and actresses has started to change the Indian image and caused the typical resident to take action.
