Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club broke ground on an 11,000-square-foot expansion to the north side of the club. After receiving approvals from both the city of Greenwood Village and its Board of Directors, the expansion will include two new yoga studios, one complete with heated floors and a dedicated heat and humidity system — a lower level expansion to the men’s locker rooms, a 1,500-square-foot Combat Zone for Mixed Martial Arts programs and a new Pilates studio with separate entrance.
Paula Neubert, the president and general manager of GATC said, “This is exciting news for our members. Each year we do a member survey and the members tell us what they want — in 2006 we added three new pools, in 2008 we expanded our weight room and now in 2011 we are expanding our ever popular Yoga, Pilates and Martial Arts Programs!” Members enjoy over 125 group exercise classes a week and now we will have five studios for them to enjoy classes!
The new Pilates studio will have an outside entrance so non-members may participate in our Pilates studio. This new Pilates studio will feature a 1,400-square-foot main studio for reformer, chair, barrel and tower classes, and a dedicated smaller and personalized mat room.
The new 2,000-square-foot yoga studio will be a state-of-the-art room with heated floors, a dedicated heat and humidity system for Thermal Yoga® (106° and 50 percent humidity), three lighting options and a vestibule entrance to keep heat and humidity in the room. The addition also includes an 850-square-foot personalized studio for small groups, reception desk, restrooms and outside courtyard.
GATC is answering the demand for Mixed Martial Arts programming with the opening of the Combat Zone including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Kickboxing, X-Fit style workouts and conditioning classes.
In addition to the expansion, are a new Youth Activity Center, expanded Camp Greenwood space and a remodel of Kids’ Club. The Camp Greenwood space will include direct access to XRKade®, and will be ready for this year’s Summer Camp season – members and non-members may enroll their kids. The Kids’ Club remodel will include new indoor and outdoor play areas with new equipment and flooring.
Additional upgrades to GATC include, new benches in the men’s and women’s locker rooms, basketball floor in gymnasium, remodeled Spinning® room and audio visual upgrades throughout the club.
