A member’s father at Swansea Total Fitness in Swansea, Mass., is a volunteer at a local food bank. That fact alone was enough to get the club involved in hosting a benefit for Dighton Food Bank.
“In the past, we ran a food drive at two of our club locations as our monthly club special,” said Laura Jenkins, the program director for Total Fitness Clubs. “Donate canned foods for the Dighton Food Bank and we’ll waive our joining fee. We ended up with several vanloads of food.”
This time the club is taking fundraising to the next level with a “Sweat, Dance & Donate” exercise class. “Sweat, Dance & Donate” is a two-hour “super class” that will be led by five of Swansea Total Fitness’ group exercise instructors. Participants are being urged to bring water for themselves and a canned-food donation to benefit Dighton Food Bank.
The Group X benefit will be hosted on May 21, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The class will be free and open to the public and all members. To get the local community involved, fliers have been distributed at local churches, schools and retail shops.
Participants are encouraged to stay the full two hours, but the scheduling of each segment is designed to be convenient for people to drop in.
