We interviewed Wendy Jett, the corporate group fitness director for Urban Active, to learn more about Urban Active’s Pop Up Video class — a throw back to VH1’s pop up videos.
Q: What exactly is the Pop Up Video class?
A: Pop Up Video is a dance class that we offer weekly to our members and guests, who LOVE to dance! They spend 40 minutes leaning a short dance routine, video it with a flip cam and then we “tweak” the video with Pop Ups, just like they do on VH1!
Q: You invented the Pop Up Video class for Urban Active. What made you want to create a class like this?
A: Dance formats are so popular these days we wanted to offer as many options as possible in that format. Social media is also popular and powerful, so merging the two seemed the way to go! We place our Pop Up Videos on our website and YouTube to share the fun!
Q: Is the class only available to Urban Active members?
A: We welcome any and all fun loving peeps to join us! We have club passes on our website to download an also offer a day fee for drop-ins, or hey, join the fun all the time by being a member!
Q: What kind of feedback have you gotten from participants?
A: The feedback has been great and the class attendance has been awesome. We even have some members that join in but opt out when we video, as they are camera shy. In fact, if we don’t get that Pop Up video posted ASAP the members are e-mailing me asking me where it is! Lots of fun and most times it’s a “blast from the past” with 80’s inspired music!
Q: What does offering a class like this do for Urban Active?
A: First and foremost it brings great energy into the club and our group fitness program, which keeps the instructors inspired and the members happy! Its also been a big boost in keeping our members engaged with the club even when they are not within the four walls — they are viewing and sharing the Pop Up videos with friends and family, spreading the message that fitness can be fun! We have a great time from start to finish with the Pop Up Video class!
