It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Christopher William McGill. A man loved by his customers and feared by his competitors, Chris was a cornerstone of the fitness industry, a mentor, a leader, and above all, a cherished friend to so many. Chris left peacefully surrounded by family on January 7, 2025, at the age of 59, his remarkable life cut short after a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer.
Chris spent nearly 15 incredible years with Freemotion Fitness, holding roles that shaped not the brand but the industry as a whole. His journey in fitness began at Star Trac, and in 1992 he was recruited by Cybex to lead the Central Region. Over the years, he left an indelible mark, serving as Director of Sales at Precor and Direct Fitness Solutions before joining the Freemotion Team.
Chris’s professional accolades were matched by his deep love for his family and his dedication to living life fully. A multi-Ironman finisher, Chris brought that same grit and perseverance to every challenge he faced. He was always willing to jump in where needed, always there for his coworkers, and always ready to enjoy a well-earned Chocolate Milkshake when he closed an unlikely deal.
Chris had a unique ability to recognize and nurture the potential in others, making him a supportive presence for everyone he encountered—friends, relatives, colleagues, and neighbors alike. If anyone needed help, Chris was there to lend a hand, listen, encourage, and care. His kindness and compassion knew no bounds. While he was a successful businessman and a respected leader, the title that meant the most to him was that of a beloved family man.
Even in his final days, Chris’s involvement in every deal, passion for the team and the fitness industry never wavered. His resilience and commitment will forever be part of his legacy—one that will continue to inspire us all.
Chris will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. His legacy, work ethic, and the joy he brought to those around him will inspire us forever.
