Do you ever go to TED.com? Here at Club Solutions Magazine we understand the power of video — which is why we provide our own videos to you — but we also enjoy videos of successful people in other industries that motivate and inspire.
After starting at Club Solutions, I stumbled upon TED.com, a site devoted to “ideas worth spreading.” Even when reading about TED.com I was intrigued. First, it’s free; and second, it has great information from some of the greatest minds in the world.
For example, if I go to TED.com right now, the first lecture titles vary from “Color-coded Surgery” to “A Garden in my Apartment.” These are just some of the few, most recent, lectures. You can search lectures based on your desires. If you are an entrepreneur — which if you own your own health club, you are — go to the business section in the left hand column. Immediately, when you click business, top titles from TED.com come up, and business leaders from a multitude of different fields help guide you through new ideas and ways to grow business in your back yard and globally, depending on your desire.
The best thing about the Internet is its vast amount of information that continues to enlighten those that aren’t afraid to search. TED.com is just one of the many places I have found that can help expand your mind and help you to conceive new ideas.
With so many entertaining features on the Internet it’s easy for people to perceive it as a complete waste of time. However, if utilized properly, the Internet can provide employees on all levels a small bit of inspiration that can spread like wildfire throughout your organization. I enjoy lectures that help me grow as a journalist and as a businessman, but I also love how lectures and books help me to understand our industry on a grander scale.
It is my belief that you should take time each day to stop and listen to someone else’s opinions on success and issues we encounter within our world. I know with our busy schedules that can seem difficult, or it may be weird to tap into online resources once a day. But, think about the amount of time you spend on the Internet each day — from Facebook, to e-mail, to news. If you took a quarter of that time and hit up ClubSolutionsMagazine.com or TED.com for a quick informational video, it could help spur your next great idea.
