For anything great you have to take chances and you have stick to a plan. Ever since we decided to write about World Gym Taiwan for our June 2012 issue, all I can think about is Taiwan and World Gym. You’ve got to make sure you read the article coming out in June to really understand how awesome this company is.
Aside from being a great club, what I’m constantly reminded of is how dedication, perseverance and a lack of fear, make for a great business. Seriously, Taiwan? Even more so — seriously, Taiwan and fitness clubs? C’mon guys!
But, they made it work!
And they made it work well.
I understand that clubs have launched all over the world with varying levels of success. However, these Americans launched clubs in a country that doesn’t speak English at all — at least in parts of Europe you can still get some English speakers.
In Taiwan, one guy is fluent in Mandarin, and the other … well, the other is getting better, but they are both fantastic operators.
Together, they had a vision, a plan and sought out their success. It truly is an amazing story with a highly profitable ending — well, ending to my story that is — their story is really just getting started.
Take some time to think about where you are in your story. Think about what your plan and goal is for your club(s). Just because you’re opening up a club in the suburbs it doesn’t mean you aren’t doing something great, or filling a void in the community — plus, you probably speak the language already.
What have you done this month to make your club stick out? Have you tried making your club a social gathering as opposed to just a place to sweat? Spend this week thinking about some out-of-the-box ideas that can really make your club stand out.
Also, watch this video of one of the club’s grand openings for World Gym Taiwan. I bet you’ve never seen anything this lavish.
