If I learned anything in my early 20s while running miles upon miles, is that my next sentence is practically blasphemous. But, sometimes, it’s just too hot to run outside. I know, I hate to say it because hard-core runners can run in all elements, and they do. However, most people, including myself at this time, aren’t hard-core runners.
Anymore I run because I know how important it is to my body and to my workout. I enjoy the results I get from running, but I don’t like the weight I cut when I do run long distances several times a week.
Running has simply become a piece of cardio in my daily exercise routine. The majority of the year, I love to run outside. However, when we reach these summer months, there is no way I’m running outside — it’s just too hot!
That’s why I love going to the gym so much. I can’t pull out as many miles on a treadmill as I would outside — I get bored — but I am able to get a solid run into my workout without feeling like I’m going to die.
I’ve been using gyms practically my whole life. But, I know many people — exercise enthusiasts included — that only exercise outdoors. In the summer, they always complain a little about how hot it is outside. Many times they will change up routines and schedules to get outdoor exercise in while the air is still mild. I just say, why don’t you go to the gym?
Most of them have gym memberships, but a lot of them never thought to use their memberships as a way to keep routines going while staying safe away from the heat. This summer, do some research on the affects of heat stroke and too much sun exposure. Market these affects to potential members and current members this summer to help fill your gym.
From someone who has come close to overheating a couple of times, it’s not something to mess around with. Inform your members about potential dangers of exercising outside during the summer months, and use it to pull them back through your doors.
