Today is National Women’s Health & Fitness Day, an event bringing thousands of women across the country together to participate in local health and fitness activities. Organized by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), the goal is simple — “to encourage women to take control of their health, to learn the facts they need to make smart health choices, and to make time for regular physical activity,” said Patricia Henze, the executive director of HIRC.
In honor of this event, I’d like to highlight some of the amazing women we’ve profiled in the Member Experience section of Club Solutions Magazine. Many of these women overcame great challenges — whether it was low self-esteem or health issues — in order to find success, defined by their terms. Use their stories to inspire the women in your health clubs, today, or throughout the year!
Amelia Zupan, member of Crunch Fitness:
Amelia Zupan joined the Crunch Fitness in West Hollywood, Calif., in June of 2012. Little did she know, that decision would lead to her running an ultra marathon through the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest with her Crunch Fitness personal trainer, Matt Aikin, just a few months later. Read about her story here.
Cornelia Mills, member of New York Health & Racquet Club:
Cornelia Mills took her first Aquacise class, a water aerobics class, in November 2011 and immediately fell in love with both the instructor and the results, leading to an impressive 75-pound weight loss. Read about her story here.
Becky Woodington, member of Colorado Athletic Club:
Becky Woodington was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis, anteriorlisthesis and degenerative disc disease — conditions that affected her back and caused her to be in chronic pain. After working privately with Natalie Gennett, the Pilates coordinator at Colorado Athletic Club, Woodington is now virtually pain-free. Read about her story here.
Betty Lou Sweeney, member of Anytime Fitness:
Before Betty Lou Sweeney, 71, joined Anytime Fitness, she struggled with severe medical issues that seriously impacted her way of life. After working with Anytime Fitness personal trainer, Dave Candra, Sweeney lost 110 pounds, broke the Guinness World Record in planking and appeared on the Today Show. Read about her story here.
These are just a few women who have overcome great challenges to find success. There are many, many more. If there is a woman at your club you would like me to highlight in the Member Experience section, e-mail me their story at Rachel@clubsolutionsmagazine.com.
