In my life I’ve had people stand in front of me and tell me I couldn’t do something. Unfortunately, when I was young, I thought you had to listen to those people. I couldn’t understand that what they were telling me was negative. I simply thought it was the truth because they knew more than me.
What I’ve learned over the past 10 to 15 years has been that they knew nothing. They were simply the detractors placed in your way to keep you from doing what they couldn’t. They pour out their insecurities onto people in hopes that they wouldn’t do anything either. Because, if one person stood up, moved them out of the way and succeeded greater than them, it would justify everything they had been attempting to deny for all those years — that they simply gave up.
In those 10 to 15 years I’ve developed a ton of tips for success. Even though I wouldn’t consider myself successful, yet, I believe we are always on the road to success. As long as you try, you stay on that road — it’s the minute you quit that you grab your lawn chair and take a seat on the sidewalk. Here are 5 tips for success that I truly believe, in no particular order:
- Dream
If you stop dreaming, you will die — maybe not physically, but mentally. Your dreams are the most important aspect of your life. They drive your ambitions, your knowledge and your ability. If you stop dreaming, then what’s the point?
- Wake Up!
If you don’t wake up, you’ll never be able to turn your dreams into actions. Waking up doesn’t just mean opening your eyes and getting out of bed — but that’s a good start. Waking up is realizing what you’ve been dreaming and taking that first step. When you wake up, you sit up, maneuver your body and put your feet down — that’s the first step to living your dreams.
- Listen
There might not have been someone that has performed your dream, but there was probably someone that attempted a part of your dream, and if not, there has at least been a person that has dreamed. It’s important that you listen to people that dream and are willing to share their dreams. When you understand how one person turned their dream into fruition, it can help you see past your own roadblocks to complete your dream.
- Know When To Stop Listening
The quicker you can distinguish positive comments from distracters, the better off you’ll be. Have you ever had someone ask about what you’re trying to do, and then give you that look like it’ll never happen? You just took five minutes of your life to explain your passion to someone that is actually going to position against you. It’s important that you identify these people before you waste too much time. Close your ears to these people so that you don’t get held down from achieving your dreams.
- Don’t Stop Fighting!
Your fight is almost more important than your dream. Some people spend their entire lives dreaming, but they don’t put up a fight. Or, if they put up a fight, they are easily knocked back down and simply give up. You must know that you will be knocked down. Sometimes your opponent will be weak and the knockdown won’t be so painful. However, at some point, you’re going to be knocked down by the champ. It won’t be as easy to get back up, but if you do, you’ll know that for the champ to take a swing at you, you’re close to living your dream. At that point, don’t give up!
