The fitness industry is constantly changing. New trends are influencing programming. Technology is changing how members interact with clubs. And each of these aspects affect how clubs and fitness spaces are designed.
And of course, no trend has had a bigger impact on club design than functional fitness.
“If you open a studio or a club and don’t have a dedicated functional training or movement space, you’re really behind the eight ball,” said Justin Campbell, the director of partnerships and key accounts for Aktiv Solutions.
Campbell recently discussed these concepts in a webinar called “Re-Imagining the Experience — Club & Studio.” According to Campbell, re-balancing the fitness floor, the next wave in technology and creating a true wellness experience are central themes clubs should keep in mind as they layout and design their clubs in the future.
In the webinar, Campbell urged clubs to “…be very intentional and innovative with your floor planning, and to really understand your overall wellness experiences for your clients. Does the place smell good? Does it flow right? Is it safe? Is it inspirational? Are your members unintimidated?”
In addition, he also urged clubs to embrace the technology end of design and inclusion. He asked, “How do we integrate technology to not replace things we’re doing and not replace staff members or trainers, but to really augment and supplement your business?”
