ROAR Active has emerged as a cornerstone in Western Australia’s fitness community, dedicated to offering a diverse and inclusive approach to wellness. Evolving from its original identity as ROAR Fitness 247, the brand underwent a significant transformation in 2021 to better reflect its expanded mission of delivering holistic fitness experiences. Today, ROAR Active’s four multi-discipline sites serve as vibrant hubs for physical, mental and social well-being.

“It was clear our offerings had grown to encompass much more than traditional gym services,” explained Hannah Selbie, the head of marketing at ROAR Active. “Our rebrand allowed us to better reflect our broader mission to serve our members through a range of wellness-focused amenities and programs. Every ROAR Active gym is designed to bring unique facilities and experiences that cater to both newcomers and seasoned fitness enthusiasts.”

Below, Selbie shares insights on how ROAR Active fosters community, its member-first approach to wellness and creating a unique destination in the fitness landscape.

What is the mission of ROAR Active?

At ROAR Active, our mission centers around our members and their unique fitness journeys. We’re here to be more than a gym. We aim to be a supportive, engaging community for each individual. We’re committed to being approachable, attentive and truly invested in helping members achieve their personal why. ROAR Active strives to create an atmosphere where members feel that our gym is their gym — a space that motivates and uplifts everyone within it.

On a larger scale, ROAR Active has cultivated environments where fitness intersects with creativity and expression. Each gym is thoughtfully crafted to provide a stimulating, supportive space that allows members to connect, grow and find inspiration in their fitness routines and beyond.

How would you describe the culture at your gyms?

The culture at ROAR Active can be summed up in the idea that “our gym is your gym.” This sentiment resonates through every aspect of our gyms, from the amenities we choose to implement — like our one-of-a-kind snow rooms — to our approach to community engagement.

We listen intently to our members’ needs and feedback, using their insights to shape our facilities and services. The result is a welcoming, adaptable culture where every member feels genuinely included, valued and empowered to embark on their personal fitness journey. We foster a space where members can be themselves, knowing they’re part of a larger family that celebrates their uniqueness and supports their goals. This member-first mindset allows ROAR Active to be a place where anyone, regardless of their fitness level, feels like they belong.



How do you use ABC Fitness’ ABC GloFox to engage with members?

Our members engage with ABC GloFox to easily book classes, access location-specific news, receive timely notifications and track their fitness progress. This integration provides a streamlined experience, enhancing convenience for members and creating a direct communication channel.

Additionally, we use ABC Trainerize alongside ABC GloFox to offer customized fitness programs, helping members stay motivated and accountable. This dual-platform approach allows us to create a highly personalized experience that aligns with our members’ fitness goals, fostering deeper engagement and making it easier for members to stay connected and informed.

How do you predict the global fitness industry will evolve in the next five to 10 years?

In the coming years, the fitness industry is likely to lean heavily into personalized and hybrid offerings, blending traditional in-person services with digital experiences to better suit modern, fast-paced lifestyles.

As technology advances, fitness facilities will need to adopt solutions that prioritize convenience, flexibility and holistic health — catering not only to physical fitness but also to mental well-being and recovery.

Fitness is transforming from a routine task into an integrated lifestyle experience, with more people looking for varied options that allow them to engage in diverse, complementary activities. This evolution means gyms will be more than just workout spaces, they’ll become comprehensive wellness hubs where members can find a full spectrum of fitness, relaxation and wellness options.

What is a trend you’re seeing in the fitness industry other operators should keep on their radar?

Data analytics is proving to be a transformative tool in the fitness industry. By harnessing detailed data insights, we’ve been able to refine our approach, implement strategic changes and plan enhancements to our membership options that align with member preferences and behaviors.

This data-driven approach has allowed us to anticipate member needs, drive higher engagement and strengthen our growth strategy. As the industry continues to evolve, the ability to collect and analyze data will become even more critical. Fitness operators who prioritize data-driven decisions can create more tailored experiences, making data analytics an essential focus for any modern fitness operation aiming to stay competitive and member-focused.
