At the end of June it was announced that Steven Nero had resigned as the president and COO of Star Trac. Simultaneously, Star Trac stated that it would replace Nero with Mike Leveque, who was formerly Star Trac’s managing director for Europe and Africa, and a 17-year veteran with the company. To grasp a better understanding of where the industry is heading and some of the changes that will be occurring at one of the top equipment manufacturers in the world, Club Solutions Magazine spoke with Leveque about the future.
CS: After 18 years, what does it mean to you to become the president of Star Trac?
Leveque: I am really excited about this opportunity. It has always been my goal to lead an organization, and to have the chance to lead Star Trac is the best possible situation. To get to lead this organization in an industry that I am passionate about, with people I have worked with for 18 years, is very satisfying.
CS: What are the responsibilities of a president of a large organization like Star Trac?
Leveque: Currently Star Trac is raising capital; so most of my time has been spent talking with perspective investors. Once we get through this phase, I will be setting the strategy of the business and making sure the operation is customer focused and runs smoothly and profitably.
CS: What does this change in leadership mean to Star Trac and how does it affect the direction of the company?
Leveque: Because of my tenure and experience at Star Trac, I don’t think it will mean a major shift in the direction of the company. I can provide continuity for new investors as we get back to growth along with the rest of the industry and the broader economy.
CS: What will the major focus be for Star Trac moving forward?
Leveque: The first order of business is securing capital. Once that is complete we need to leverage what we have built over the last five or six years to get back to growing the top and bottom lines of the business.
CS: What is your vision for the future of Star Trac?
Leveque: My vision is to return Star Trac to its position as the industry leader in customer service. We want to create “raving fans” among our customers by treating them well and providing them with a great product.
CS: What do you hope to accomplish as president of Star Trac that was not accomplished in the past?
Leveque: Someday I would like Star Trac to be widely recognized as the industry leader in creating innovative products and in taking care of our customers.
Way to go, Mike!
