As we all get closer and closer to the New Year, we start thinking about what needs to get done to make the club standout to the onslaught of potential members. Alana Free, the VP of People and Culture for GoodLife Fitness, the largest fitness club in Canada, discussed a few initiatives that mean the most to GoodLife when gearing up for the New Year’s rush:
1) Help our associates let their Peak Attitude shine.
2) Ensure we have all of our key roles filled with associates who live our core values.
3) Ramp up on our associate training efforts, so everyone feels supported and ready for the busy season.
It’s important for GoodLife that all of their 350 locations are on the same page and every employee is embracing the values of the club. On average, GoodLife Fitness hires about 350 employees in December to correspond to the locations — typically the hires are 1.5 associates per club in December.
According to Krista Maling, the Senior Public Relations Manager for GoodLife, associate retention has increased significantly, so replacing associates isn’t as big of a concern. “But, since we have grown tremendously over the last five years — by over 60 percent — the volume of associates we need to hire has increased.”
