When lead registered dietitian Roxanne Hartman wanted to enhance health and wellness services at Gainesville Health & Fitness Centers, she turned to BodyMedia FIT. Since 1999, BodyMedia® has been the leader in wearable body monitors, capturing information such as calories burned, steps taken, physical activity levels and sleep efficiency.
“The use of the Armband lets me look at my clients’ sleep and physical activity which are important factors in weight loss,” said Hartman. Gainesville Health & Fitness has been using the BodyMedia FIT technology for over a year in their GHF Personal Training Department and has had a steady flow of purchases from members that are looking for that extra edge and motivation to get them to lose weight.
BodyMedia recently had a soft launch for ProConnect, a type of software that allows personal trainers and dietitians to remotely coach their clients when they’re not in the gym. Hartman has been using this software to remotely coach one of her clients who is always traveling. Though the client doesn’t physically interact in the club often, Hartman can always stay connected by checking activity and food logging remotely.
When asked if she thinks body monitoring and remote coaching will change the way health clubs do programming, Hartman said, “It has the potential to promote fitness on a larger scale. If the health club or coaches can check in on members’ progress, they can encourage them in their goals, promote friendly competition and celebrate milestones. It also holds members accountable outside of the gym. As a culture we are moving more towards virtual interaction and convenience. The same is true in fitness. BodyMedia FIT gives consumers accurate feedback in and out of the gym and ProConnect takes that feedback to another level by allowing personalized evaluations of the workout and diet by the trainer and dietitian.
