Merritt Athletic Clubs has partnered with Smart CEO Magazine to search for the “fittest” CEO in Maryland. Searching for 10 CEO’s to compete in an eight-week challenge held at Merritt Athletic Clubs. The challenge will conclude with a fitness evaluation covering fitness levels such as endurance, core strength and flexibility. The challenge begins in June and the winner will be announced at Smart CEO Magazine’s CEO of the Year event in October.
“If you can get to the top person and get them understanding the many benefits of a healthy lifestyle, hopefully it will trickle down,” said Mark Miller, the vice president of Merritt. According to Miller, those healthy benefits will carry over into the workplace by reducing absenteeism, increasing productivity and resulting in higher staff morale and a more engaged staff.
So far, five Maryland CEOs have signed up for the challenge, including Rohit Patel, Intelect Technology; Rick Campbell, ICAT Logistics; Augie Chesiara, M&T Bank; Bert Lebhar, Atlantic Remodeling and Jim Hudson, Marsh & McLennan Companies. “We’d like some friendly competition on who can be the fittest CEO,” explained Miller.
The challenge is free and participants will begin with an initial goal-setting session with a fitness advisor at Merritt. Each week, the CEOs will participate in a training session/meeting with a personal trainer, and will be given a weekly exercise plan to follow.
“We want to increase the awareness of what a healthy lifestyle can do for companies,” said Miller. “We’re really excited about this pilot program.”
