When I was invited to write this weekly blog by Tyler Montgomery at Club Solutions Magazine, I thought, should I really put one more thing on my plate? It only took me about 30 seconds to realize that writing is one of the things I love to do most, and after being in this industry for over 30 years, I could probably think of something to say. The test will be if you think what I have to say resonates with you. That is why I am hoping that many, many of you comment on the blog. I love discussion, debate and conversation of all kinds.
I am currently the Director of Marketing, Public Relations and Charitable Giving for the Newtown Athletic Club. That is quite a title, I know, especially the “Charitable Giving” part. But that part of my job has been arguably the most rewarding. I know it is a cliché to wax on about how giving back to the community is truly fulfilling, but clichés have been around for a long time for a reason. They are very, very true. Besides being in charge of awarding millions of dollars of goods and services, monies and time to charitable causes over the years, I have been able to use my marketing and PR know-how to further the initiatives of many of these charities.
My goal with this blog is to share some experiences that relate to marketing and public relations each week that will spark a lively conversation. I am hoping to learn things from all of you as well. I am certain that will happen and quite frankly, even after all these years, I often think I know less than when I started.
The landscape of marketing has changed so much, even in the past 10 years, that I am in a constant pursuit of what is new and current that will help me get the job done more quickly, efficiently and better than before. My best avenues for learning have always come from other members of the fitness industry.
So please tolerate my humble suggestions for marketing ideas and interact with me at every turn, so I can become the student more often than the teacher.
All the best!
