During my time with Club Solutions, I’ve interviewed tons of fitness professionals and highlighted many clubs that constantly strive to do one thing — engage members. And, during these interviews, I’ve discovered a handful of clubs who are great at doing just that.
Recently I spoke with Mindy Pierce, the director of programming for Sport&Health, and we discussed the club’s recent “Committed Program.” We talked about how the club engaged members using incentives and a fun challenge. Look for an in-depth story on the program tomorrow.
After our conversation, I found myself wishing that there were more clubs in my area that offered inventive, membership engagement programs, challenges or events. Membership engagement could mean hosting an exciting weight loss challenge, inviting members to do a local 5K or simply hosting a photo contest. During the event, give out club t-shirts or other paraphernalia showcasing your logo. Offer your members something fun and exciting to do, outside of their normal fitness routine.
Personally, I know how excited I’d be to walk into my gym and discover an exciting event or challenge was going on, outside of the day-to-day grind. It would give me something to look forward to, and potentially strengthen my bond with the club.
Brainstorm a few ideas on how you can engage your members, and be sure to check back tomorrow for inspiration from Sport&Health’s recent Committed Program.
