Rick Berks, the founder and owner of Youfit Health Clubs, is about to open his 57th location nationwide, his fourth location in the Atlanta market. The new club will be in Buford, Ga. with three other clubs in Kennesaw, Norcross and Douglasville respectively.
Additionally, Youfit is looking to add more clubs within the state of Georgia. The business model is non-traditional, geared to the average person. Youfit also prides itself on being one of the “greenest” clubs in the country, using Nike “grind” for flooring.
“We’re building clubs for people who don’t want to deal with the trauma and drama of the usual health club,” said Berks, in a statement. “You wouldn’t believe how many people tell me they have to get in shape before they’ll feel comfortable walking into a health club.”
“We’re really excited about the Atlanta market,” Berks continued, “and about the welcome we’ve received here. We’re getting people in the Atlanta area off the couch. We’re creating new businesses here. And we’re creating them in a way that’s good to the environment.”
WHAT exactly does Mr. Berks think is so intimidating about a health club? Honestly, I am so tired of hearing how anyone who takes their health and fitness seriously, is somehow intimidating. From Planet Fitness’ “No Judgement Zone” which by the way, JUDGES anyone who wants to lift more than 50 pounds, or god forbid, who releases any type of effort deemed too much, or carries too large a container of water – to this latest offering – I frankly am weary of hearing that gyms that fit people attend are somehow incapable of taking care of the “average” member. We LOVE all members! It would behoove the whole industry to STOP reinforcing these misconceptions.
