Johnson Health Tech has recalled all Matrix Fitness Ascent Trainers and Ellipticals installed between November 2011 and December 2012. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall is due to a potential fire hazard caused by moisture accumulation from perspiration or cleaning products on the power socket building up and causing a short circuit.
To date, no injuries have been reported due to the hazard. Reports of smoke, sparks, and charring on the power cord and socket have been made. There are approximately 2,800 units included in the recall. Owners of any of these machines are being asked to unplug any of the affected machines and contact Johnson Health Tech to schedule a free repair.
The machines being recalled are any Ascent Trainers or Ellipticals with a decal at the center/bottom of the units with model numbers beginning with A3x, A5x, A7x, E3x, E5x or E7x. According to CPSC, the units can still be used without being plugged in, as they are self-powered.
