A partnership between the American Council on Exercise and San Diego-based Troy Apps Software has turned the highly successful ACE Academy Elite interactive study guide for aspiring personal trainers into a native iPad app that caters to a new school of learners in a digital age. ACE Academy Elite for iPad, developed using the Troy Apps Mobile Learning Tool platform, delivers an enhanced study experience using only one device. In addition to marrying new features including tap-and-expand graphics, tappable glossary terms and custom note organization, the app syncs all progress to the desktop version of ACE Academy Elite.
“We want to cater to a new age of more technically savvy learners, and ACE Academy Elite for iPad helps us do that using a platform we know is effective,” said Scott Goudeseune, the president and CEO of ACE. “Offering this option helps a wider range of aspiring personal trainers obtain the knowledge and skills they need to launch their careers and contribute to the national response to the obesity epidemic and other chronic diseases.”
Based on the original, web-based version of ACE Academy Elite, the iPad app offers a comprehensive study experience using video lectures led by ACE Certified professionals, custom progress tracking and lesson quizzes, in addition to digital versions of the “ACE Personal Trainer Manual” and “ACE’s Essentials of Exercise Science for Fitness Professionals” texts.
Candidates who utilize ACE Academy Elite throughout the entire study process reduce preparation time for the ACE Personal Trainer Certification exam to 12 weeks and pass the NCCA-accredited exam on their first attempt 87 percent of the time, according to data collected since the self-paced experience launched in July 2012.
