Are you leveraging technology to run your club at the optimum level? Brian O’Leary of Jonas Fitness recently discussed this question in a recent webinar on “Technology Ecosystems: How Successful Club Operators Run their Clubs.”
But first, O’Leary answered the question: What is an ecosystem? He explained it is a complex, interconnected network of applications and services.
And why is it so relevant today? The relevance came into play with a paradigm shift in the industry, involving the move from a CMS build mentality to a buy mentality.
According to O’Leary, with a build mentality, when clubs needed their CMS to do a certain function, they’d approach their CMS providers and ask them to build that functionality. This didn’t work well for either party — it took too long for the service provider to make the functionality, and the service provider had to customize different services/functions for different clients.
Enter the buy mentality. Today, there are dozens of software services and applications that revolve around a singular aspect of functionality — such as sales, mobile apps or net promoter scores. As a result, clubs can now integrate those services into their CMS (if their CMS has an open API), versus waiting for the software to develop the service.
According to O’Leary, when done right, a technology ecosystem will help clubs sell more, retain more members and manage less — and he goes into detail on exactly how in the webinar.
Because ultimately, having a great technology ecosystem helps you create efficiencies in your club operations.
