“If you’re not investing in relationships, you’re missing the point.”
Those were some of the many standouts Will Guidara said during his keynote at IHRSA 2024. I think those words resonated with not only me, but everyone is attendance because that’s why we were there isn’t it?
As I walked the tradeshow floor, met with people at our booth and attended social events I kept hearing how it felt like a family reunion or being at summer camp with your friends. I can attest that there’s nothing better than being face-to-face with passionate people who are all working toward a common goal.
Besides reuniting with friends and meeting some people I’ve worked with for over four years for the first time in person, I also took time to notice common themes at the show.
Here are the top trends and takeaways I saw:
Wellness and Recovery
Wellness and recovery were well represented. It seemed like every corner there were massage chairs, cold plunges, Cryo chambers, red light beds and more. There’s lot of interest here and facilities are trying to figure out the best way to make it a true value add that can generate a new revenue stream for the business.
AI and Technology
Brands are working hard to deliver a fully connected gym experience. Many are looking at wearables, Al, and big data as pillars in helping the member see results and have a more positive experience. A win win for clubs and consumers.
Health Club and Health Care
The intersection of the health club and healthcare is here. IHRSA announced its rebrand to the Health and Fitness Association, to ensure there’s no question about the mission, vision and clarity of purpose of the Health & Fitness Association. I believe more and more facilities will be looking for a strategy and infrastructure to support the movement towards healthcare.
Ease of Use
From adjustable dumbbells to AI fitness coaches, the industry is working hard to create solutions that remove barriers to member experience with the four walls.
