Question: What is the CMS Convention? Is this a new event?
Answer: The CMS Convention is now in its 7th year. It is held in Helena, MT, otherwise known as Big Sky Country, (May 23rd-25th). The convention has a great little trade show where you really get a chance to meet the key industry vendors; plus an entire lineup of first-class educational opportunities.
This year’s keynote speakers are fantastic. Steve Lundin who is the author of FISH will speak on what it takes to become a top performer. Steve Dee, professor at Notre Dame, will be speaking on “The Omega Principle,” a theory of business practice designed to create a unified team. Coach Mike Van Diest, four-time national champion football coach, will address the topic of “Creating Winners.”
Everyone will also have the opportunity to honor Augie Nieto, the founder of Life Fitness, by participating in the annual gala event and scholarship fundraiser.
One of the most exciting features this year is the introduction of some very high-tech applications now available to independent club owners, including: 24/7 online training programs and a free VOIP telephone and conferencing system. A revolutionary business management accountability and training system will also be unveiled.
All clients will receive this year’s Marketing, Service and Operations Guide, which should provide exiting materials and systems to grow your membership next year.
Question: What is ICOA?
Answer: It is a new association that provides independent club operators with an opportunity to belong to an association that targets their specific needs. Only independently owned clubs can belong; chains are not eligible. Much of the targeted materials and programs will be provided online. Training, meetings, and marketing materials will be supplied as well. A “travel pass” program will be part of the ICOA program. ICOA is designed to address the issues facing the independent club owner. The ICOA website is simply: www.icoa.net.
