Interested in adding more yogis to your club? Starting in March, Yogaworks will launch a six-part Pilates Teacher Trainer Program that will certify instructors in the theory of Pilates and its different forms.
Taught by certified YogaWorks staff, classes will take place over five weeks and educate participants in Applied Anatomy, Mat and Pre-Pilates, Pilates Reformer, Pilates Cadillac, Chairs and Barrels and Level IV Training.
“We are delighted to continue YogaWorks’ history of superior education with the Pilates training program,” said YogaWorks’ chief executive officer, Phil Swain. “The training will result in a diverse and stable foundation in the practice of Pilates, enabling instructors to teach students at every level with the same quality and integrity YogaWorks prides itself on.”
According to Swain, it wasn’t a stretch to go from training instructors in yoga to Pilates, due to their similarities in “mindful fitness.”
“We say – safe yoga, mindful yoga. We’re global leaders in yoga training so I said – why don’t we take that over to Pilates?” he said.
To celebrate Earth Day Weekend, on April 20 – 22 at the Tadasana Festival, YogaWorks will offer a special class, Stand Together, to raise funds for the yoga activist organizations — Off the Mat, Into the World and the Empowered Youth initiative.
Held during the third day of the festival, participants will be taught by Seane Corn, an Off the Mat co-founder, Lisa Walford, the writer of the YogaWorks Teacher Training manual, Kathryn Budig, the author of the The Big Book of Yoga, Kia Miller, founder of the DVD series Radiant Body Yoga and YogaWorks instructor Joan Hyman.
“We are so honored to support the Tadasana Festival and to host this special class to benefit the amazing work being done at Off the Mat, Into the World,” said Swain. “It’s exciting to bring together the top teachers in the yoga community for this special weekend of yoga and philanthropy.”
Swain appreciates the fact that Off the Mat, Into the World allows activists to positively impact the local community. “[Off the Mat, Into the World], teach people how to be an activist in a positive way. It’s a good thing,” he said.
Off the Mat, Into the World was founded by Seane Corn, Suzanne Sterling and Hala Khouri with the goal of mobilizing yogis and activists to serve the global community through leadership training, community collaboration, local and global service projects by igniting grassroots social change. The Empowered Youth Initiative is Off the Mat’s commitment to serving youth in the U.S., specifically to reverse the disruptive cycles facing city youth in Los Angeles and other urban centers.
