O2 Fitness partnered with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) to offer free outdoor group fitness classes for residents in downtown Raleigh’s City Plaza in Raleigh, N.C. as part of the “Shape Up Downtown” program.
“We’re really focused on bringing healthy living into our community. With [Shape Up Downtown] community members can try something for free,” said Shanna Kane, the director of marketing for O2 Fitness Clubs.
The partnership is a result of O2 Fitness’ desire to provide opportunities for downtown residents and workers to exercise in a unique and sociable way.
“We wanted to give our members some added value to their membership — get them outside,” said Kane. “With the weather being so nice we have the perfect venue, and DRA wanted to give their members the opportunity to get to know O2 Fitness.”
Free outdoor classes started on Monday, March 26, 2012 and will end Monday, April 30, 2012. So far, the program has averaged between 25-30 participants per class. “We’re really excited to see who’s going to take advantage of it,” said Kane. “We’ve had a lot of people register for the next couple weeks of classes.”
According to Kane, O2 Fitness hopes to use spaces similar to Raleigh’s City Plaza in other cities with O2 Fitness locations to launch comparable programs. “Being able to use [the City Plaza] for something that promotes healthy living — it’s a really fun environment to be a part of,” she said.
