Is it okay for you to read a blog and walk away with a homework assignment? I say yes. So I’m going to challenge you to identify the five things you must do every day to be successful. I will help you with a couple of things, but you have to figure out the rest.
1. Have a great attitude.
You must have a great attitude. Most of what you get done in a day is because of your great attitude, and most of what you don’t get done in a day is because of your bad attitude. Coming to work every day, happy and ready to perform with a mission, is a key to success. The best can fake it, but you’re successful because you are energetic and ready to tackle your day. If you start your day with no energy and no vision, you are defeated before you even start. Keep positive thoughts and throw away negative thoughts. A great day starts with a great attitude.
2. Have a plan.
Number two falls under planning, or having a daily business plan. All sales reps have requirements or quotas. If you come to work with a specific plan of how your day will pan out, the possibility for success goes up dramatically. Every successful business has a plan; each sales rep has to treat their business as if they are self-employed.
So every day you must:
- Have a great attitude.
- Work your business plan.
- As a bonus — build relationships — this would be a great place to start as a third “must,” but that is just a hint.
I want you to think of the five things you must do each day like you think of oxygen. If you don’t do these five things, you will not get any oxygen tomorrow. These five things are the lifeblood of your business, or in this case, of your sales department. So what are the five things you must do?
After you come up with your five, put them in order of what’s most important. Then for the next 21 days only work the five things and see what happens. I guaranteed production will increase.
I believe that most would agree that many sales reps spend a large part of their day being unproductive, unfocused, without a plan. This will help you streamline your efforts to get everyone on board and make your job easier.
