Crunch is expanding its reach in the U.S., opening clubs in new markets such as Dallas, and its first-ever location in Puerto Rico.
Operated by a husband-and-wife team, Pablo Acosta and Herminia Ortiz, the Puerto Rico location will open next summer, just outside Plaza Escorial, Carolina. This is the first Crunch location for the couple, and Crunch’s first foray into the Hispanic market.
“My wife and I decided to fulfill our dream to invest in the present and future of Puerto Rico, and we are thrilled that we can now call ourselves proud owners of [a] Crunch Fitness Puerto Rico franchise,” said Acosta, in a press release.
According to Ben Midgley, the franchise president of Crunch, the company is excited to work with the couple to expand Crunch’s reach in Puerto Rico. “They’re an incredible couple,” he said. “Puerto Rico is a good market, and there’s a lot of opportunity there for us.”
Crunch will invest $1.5 million into the first Puerto Rico location, which will boast 20,000-square-feet of space spanning three floors. Defining features will include an indoor cycling studio with over 30 bikes, innovative Group X classes and HydroMassage.
In addition to expanding its reach to Puerto Rico, in April 2014 Crunch will open its first location in Addison, Texas, located just north of Dallas. The club will be owned by Crunch franchisee Aaron Versammy.
According to Midgley, Crunch is well positioned to continue to enter even more new markets. “Crunch is doing a great job, on both the corporate and franchisee side, with growth,” he said. “It’s been a breakout year for us.”
