The Quad in Pleasanton, Calif. boasts a number of unique fitness offerings within its 20,000-square-foot, high-end facility, including Absolute Barre, CrossFit NST and Undisputed Boxing. Now, the club has added Air Fit, a class that simulates training at 5,280 feet, to that unique lineup of offerings.
Designed for athletes, Air Fit offers a way for participants to take their training to the next level. Over the course of 50 minutes, athletes train at a high-intensity in a hypoxic chamber with reduced oxygen, to mimic a high-altitude environment (it can simulate altitudes up to 22,000 feet). The Quad teamed up with Hypoxico Altitude Training Systems to design the 1,100-square-foot training room that hosts Air Fit classes.
Greg Lewis, the general manager of The Quad (owned by Leisure Sports, Inc.), is excited about the addition of Air Fit to the club. Leisure Sports has executed the program before, at Club Sport in Tigard, Ore. “It’s been a huge success at the Oregon location,” said Lewis. “We thought it would be great and forward-thinking to bring that here [to The Quad].”
Aside from the uniqueness of each fitness offerings, The Quad is special in that it’s essentially five fitness clubs in one. Members can purchase a low-cost membership ($39.99 per month), which provides access to the fitness center with cardio and strength equipment, plus locker rooms and childcare services.
Or, they can purchase memberships to one of the four fitness components: Absolute Barre, CrossFit NST, Undisputed Boxing, and now Air Fit. For $180, a fitness component package includes unlimited classes and access to the locker rooms and childcare services, as well.
For those who like to mix it up, members can purchase a “catch-all” membership for $220 per month, which includes access to all four fitness components and the general fitness area.
Lewis has high hopes for The Quad. “We’re very excited about the product we have here,” he said. “It’s cutting edge, which is something we strive to be.”
According to Lewis, the concept is great for consumers who like the energy a studio can provide for. However, many studios don’t boast amenities such as childcare or lockers rooms. That’s where The Quad steps in.
The Quad opened on January 1, 2014, and is celebrating its official grand opening April, 10th. “So far, it’s been awesome,” said Lewis.
