Personal trainers are training women and children in every state. As a result, NCCPT believes it’s time certification companies require mandatory background screening for candidates to sit for their exams.
Most national organizations like USA Cycling, the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) and the Boy Scouts require a mandatory background screening to represent their organization. As an organization, NCCPT believes personal trainers should maintain the same high standard of credibility.
As a result, the NCCPT has contracted the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) as the company to perform the background screening. The mission of NCSI, formed in partnership with the National Council of Youth Sports (NCYS), is “to serve as our country’s premiere resource in an overall effort to eradicate harm and loss in organizations and communities across the globe through increased awareness and training, the creation and implementation of national standards and the integration of fully-managed risk management programs, inclusive of background screening.”
Candidates who have committed violent crimes or dangerous felonies in the last ten years such as assault, perjury, burglary, fraud and more, will not be allowed to sit for the exam.
