Premium, luxury fitness has come to the financial district of Boston. As 2014 came to a close, Republic Fitness opened its doors in late December, taking over the first two floors of the post-modern skyscraper at Two International Place.
The Healthworks group, a family-owned gym group that operates three other fitness brands in the Boston metropolitan market, created the gym as a new concept for the company. “It’s a co-ed, premium club,” said Tara Wislocki, the group’s marketing director. “We are taking our best practices from both Healthworks for Women and GymIt and marrying them into this new concept.”
Healthworks Fitness Centers For Women is a premium club for women only, while Healthworks Community Fitness is a non-profit facility for women and children who would not otherwise be able to afford fitness opportunities. GymIt is a co-ed, no-frills budget club costing only $20 a month.
Now, Republic Fitness provides members with premium amenities and a luxury workout experience. The gym includes a state-of-the-art fitness studio with a plethora of group fitness classes, such as high-intensity boot camps, barre, yoga and Zumba. The club also features a separate cycling room, functional turf and personal training.
The gym incorporates new technology into many of its offerings. In case members can’t make it to a scheduled group fitness class, the gyms boast virtual classes, which members can take at their convenience.
“In addition to our vast group fitness schedule, we have virtual classes in both our cycling studio and our main studio,” explained Wislocki. “We think this will open up a good opportunity for members to use the club and have a class experience at different times of the day, instead of having to stick to our group fitness schedule. It is something new that we haven’t done at our other clubs.”
Another defining factor is the club’s new Matrix equipment that allows members to connect with popular fitness apps and wearables. “The Matrix equipment has a lot of neat features where you can sync to your Fitbit and any other devices that folks are using now,” said Wislocki. “We are really excited about it.”
Republic Fitness’ mission is “fueled by the core belief that healthy people sustain healthy communities.”
The club’s location, in the heart of the financial district, enhances corporate membership opportunities and that mission. “We are in a building that has many offices and different companies so we are happy to support the community here,” said Wislocki. “We have a lot of corporate exposure at this location so we are working pretty closely to try and set up corporate accounts and doing a lot of corporate discounts for those corporate partners.”
