Last week, GoodLife Fitness reached a tremendous milestone. The company announced plans to open its first club in Prince Edward Island, making GoodLife Fitness the first Canadian-owned and operated company with locations in every province in Canada.
The company has grown exponentially since David ‘Patch’ Patchell-Evans opened the first club in London, Ontario, in 1979. “When I opened my first club, I wasn’t sure what the future would hold as the entire fitness industry was still relatively young,” said Patch. “I knew that I wanted to provide an incredible experience for members and make them feel cared for.”
GoodLife now operates more than 350 locations across Canada. According to Patch, a key component to the success of the company has been a clear vision. “Once we started to add locations and new staff, we took a really hard look at our company and decided that in order to keep being successful, we would have to define our purpose,” said Patch. “We knew that we wanted to give every Canadian the opportunity to live a fit and healthy good life. From there it felt like we had a clear sense of direction.”
Earlier this month the company reached 1.2 millions members, meaning that one in every 30 Canadians are GoodLife members. “We know that providing convenient locations is a significant factor in our members’ success, that’s why having a club in every province is an accomplishment we’re very proud of,” added Patch. “We have clubs that are closer and more convenient to even more Canadians.”
The fitness club chain shows no signs of slowing down, planning to add another 60 GoodLife Fitness and Fit4Less by GoodLife locations across the country in 2016 and 2017. Patch explained, as the company continues to grow it will maintain its commitment to helping as many Canadians as possible achieve their health, fitness and wellness goals.
“As a leader in physical activity in Canada, GoodLife is committed to providing opportunities to Canadians of all ages to lead active and healthy lives through fitness club options, strategic partnerships and diverse programs and services both within the club and outside its walls,” said Patch. “Our progression as a company will also include launching innovate programs, as well as strategic collaboration with leaders in traditional healthcare.”
