At least for one day, 9Round, a national chain of kickboxing franchises with over 300 locations in five countries, kicked breast cancer to the curb.
On October 15, 2015, 9Round hosted its fourth annual Kick Event, during which fitness and kickboxing enthusiasts had a unique opportunity to help raise money for the support of breast cancer organizations. 9Round donated one penny for every kick recorded throughout the day at nearly over 200 gyms in the U.S. and Canada.
By the end of the day, 10,522,131 kicks were recorded, raising $105,221.31 to advance treatment and laboratory research for breast cancer.
“The Kick Event was not only a way for us to show support to those who are affected by breast cancer, but it also allowed us to connect with local communities while doing something active,” said 9Round founder and CEO Shannon Hudson. “We are extremely grateful for all the franchisees and participants for making this year’s event a tremendous success and for helping us advance the fight against breast cancer.”
Since launching the annual event four years ago, 9Round’s Kick Event has recorded just over 18.8 million kicks and raised nearly $189,000.
“It’s not just benefitting me, it’s for somebody else too,” said Jennifer Robertson, a 9Round member in Waynesboro, Virginia. “It’s good to be exercising and instead of doing it for yourself, to be putting it towards something else.”
