What can you do to help prevent a total system failure in the event of a disaster?

It’s possible your business could encounter a system failure at some point. Whether it’s due to a natural disaster such as tornadoes and earthquakes, or a dreaded IT bug, having a disaster recovery plan is imperative.

What is disaster recovery as it relates to gym software? A disaster recovery plan (DRP) is a process put in place to recover access to software, hardware and data needed to run a business on a daily basis. Most importantly, it’s peace of mind knowing if your system goes down that it can be back up and running within minutes. With a backup plan in place you don’t have to worry about losing important data stored within your software. It’s ideal to have a DRP that includes access to duplicate systems across two physical data centers and complete system recovery tests yearly. A disaster recovery plan must be adaptable and updated often. If you add new software, hire new employees, or open a new location, that should be taken into consideration when updating your plans.

What can you do to help prevent a total system failure in the event of a disaster? Always use surge protectors. It may sound silly, but they minimize the effect of power surges on electronics that are needed for everyday business use. In the event of a power outage, it’s always important to have a backup generator to keep your system up and running. To prevent an IT bug, always install anti-virus software and keep your electronics password protected to help reduce the risk of being hacked.

By having a duplicate system in a remote location, you can ensure you always have a backup in the event of a failure with your current system. Businesses generate large amount of data through software daily, so it’s largely important to backup that data. Whether it’s saving important files to an external hard drive or to a USB device, it’s vital to have a backup. Just as having a backup is important, the security of where you store your backups are important as well. Always make sure to store any backup devices in a safe, dry, and secure place. Another option for backing up important data is storing it on the cloud. If you choose to use the cloud for storage, any software installed on the server or computer will be backed up automatically.

At the end of the day, the only thing certain is uncertainty, so it’s extremely important to have a disaster recovery plan in place for your business.
