A Hug or a High-Five

Two years ago, Trevor Scott and Trevor Garber had a thought: What if they could take the knowledge they’d earned from personal training, and pair it with their experiences as All-Ohio athletes?

From that idea, Elite1 Fitness was born, with a mission to offer high-quality coaching to clients, with a focus on athletic performance, personalized training and sports development.

When the business first started, the founders didn’t have a brick and mortar location to call their own, instead offering training out of a big-box facility. When that location suddenly closed, the duo rented space again from another gym. It wasn’t until January 2016 that Scott and Garber decided to pursue their first physical location.

“We kind of just looked at each other and said, ‘It’s about that time isn’t it,’ and we decided to take the plunge,” said Scott. “It was a little bit scary at first to have our own brick and mortar location, our own gym.”

Fortunately, the move to a physical location has been a positive one for the partner’s business. According to Scott, they’ve seen the biggest surge in clients since inception, as both personal trainers and for Elite1 Fitness as a brand.

In addition, moving the business twice gave Scott great insight into how to move locations, without losing tons of customers. “Every time you move a location, even if you’re not moving a great distance, you’re always going to see a little bit of chaos as far as getting everyone organized and moving your whole clientele base with you,” he said.

Scott said communicating the move beforehand was key to a smooth transition. The fact they didn’t lose many clients is a testament to their personality and reputation. “We really strive every day to create the best atmosphere in the fitness community that’s available out there,” he said. “Every single client that comes through either gets a hug or a high five, every single day.”

Elite1 Fitness’ clientele come into the facility for performance-based classes, and can choose from one-on-one or small group training. “The thing that really helps us out is we’re both All-Ohio athletes, so that gives us a little bit of credibility in the field that we’re training in,” explained Scott. “The facility is a big upgrade for us — that really helps when people come and they’re able to see all of the things that we can offer them. Plus, all of the fun different aspects and use of different equipment that we have is always exciting for both the athletes and the newcomers.”

And of course, having a new place to call home is exciting for Scott and Garber. At the end of the day, their focus is to continue building the tight-knit and positive atmosphere that have been tenets of the brand since the beginning. “You have to keep the energy high, because you never know what a client’s day is like,” said Scott. “We’re very outgoing people, so that really helps us create an amazing atmosphere.”
