In today’s digital age, video testimonials are a great way to tell your health club’s story in a visual way. And fortunately, capturing quality video isn’t all that difficult. Here are some tips to keep in mind when shooting a testimonial that prospects will not only enjoy watching, but hopefully learn from.
Find the right subject
Find members who aren’t just willing to be on a camera, but who are excited to be. If a member is begrudgingly offering a testimonial, that attitude will come off in the video. Therefore, find members who are excited and happy to share their success stories — their energy will be easier to capture and will come off as more sincere.
Prepare
Before actually shooting any video, come up with a list of questions and points you’d like the subject to touch on. In addition, have them answer the same question in multiple ways. When it comes to video, you want to have a few options to choose from. The more you get, the better. Afterall, it’s easier to get what you need then and there, versus having to ask a member to come back again.
Be aware of your surroundings
When capturing video make sure there’s not any annoying or repetitive background noise that will be distracting to viewers. Same goes for scenery — make sure the subject is the focus of the shot, not a huge plant in the background. In addition, when setting up a shot, keep the “Rule of Thirds” in mind. Here’s a link to a quick video that explains this concept.
Other video essentials
A cell phone or iPad: Yes, you don’t need a high-quality camera! Most phones these days shoot high-quality video, so there’s no need to invest in expensive equipment.
A tripod: Nope, you don’t need an expensive one of these either. However, a tripod is essential because it gives you flexibility on where you can shoot. Video done by hand almost never comes out without some shaking involved — no matter how stable you believe your hands are.
Video editing software/apps: Pinnacle, Voddio, Window’s Movie Maker and iMovie are good options, but there are countless affordable and easy-to-use options on the market.
A microphone: Again, you don’t need an expensive one. If you’re in a space with no background noise, a cheap microphone will do.
Remember, you don’t need expensive equipment or a high-end team to shoot quality video testimonials. It just takes a little patience and creativity. Keep these tips in mind and you’ll be well on your way to spreading your health club’s story in an appealing, visual way.
