The holidays are right around the corner, and for those who enjoy working out that means two big challenges: large quantities of food and cold weather. Kerri O’Brien, an exercise physiologist with Life Fitness, told Reuters that the average American gains about eight pounds during the holiday season.
Many people stop thinking about swimming attire and simply lose the motivation to exercise. Many people stop exercising outside and start rolling into the gym. By moving the average outdoor workout into the gym, Americans can expect to keep off those nasty holiday pounds and keep a nice tight body, ready for the next summer season.
Also, the winter months have side effects associated with depression. The sunny days are covered with gray/gloomy clouds that cause people to lose sight of what makes them happy. They see the holiday cheer and they are reminded of sad aspects of their lives. Joining a gym and exercising helps people to avoid those downfalls. By staying fit they keep motivated and focused, rather than sad and depressed. “It helps your mind cope with stress and anxiety,” Keith Worts, the COO of Crunch told Reuters. “The days are shorter. You get cooped up, especially in New York apartments.” The club turns into a perfect place to go, where people can exercise, be social and stay warm all at the same time.
