Gold’s Gym is prepping to build a new club in downtown Milwaukee, Wis.

According to a recent biztimes.com article, Compass Properties LLC owns the building and Gold’s Gym will occupy 43,000 square feet of space on five floors of a seven-story building.

“The Gold’s Gym owners liked the building because of its location in the heart of downtown and the fact that it was one of the few buildings there with a large amount of contiguous vacant space that could be converted into a health club,” co-owner Sandy Hall told biztimes.com.

Downtown Milwaukee already has several other gyms and health clubs in the area but Gold’s Gym doesn’t see it as a problem. They expect to make a positive impact on the downtown market.

“By creating the best possible fitness environment for all populations with state of the art programming options, equipment and staff knowledge,” said Gold’s Gym franchisee owner Jeremy Lowell. “The partnership group is experts in superb club operations, programming and training, and facility management. Not to mention that we been in the industry for more than 20 years and are industry leaders.”

Constructing a gym downtown had some different problems compared to building in the suburbs. Parking is an issue and asbestos abatement was a major deal with renovating an old building said Lowell.

The new gym is expected to open in December.
