Be Efficient

Clubs of all sizes have to be efficient. When a treadmill stops running, you can’t just throw it out, you have the company come and fix it. If the projector stops working in the cardio theater, you call the serviceman.

Recently, I was in a club and saw a great example of a club being efficient with used equipment. The personal trainers had moved some equipment to create floor space for a small bootcamp setting.

They took a lot of the jump ropes and other materials they use for personal training to fill the area. Among the pieces was a large punching bag they were having clients lift long ways, and flip.

The chains of the punching bag had taken a beating (no pun intended) over several months from non-boxing types. They would square off against the punching bag and give it everything they had for a couple of minutes.

This gym isn’t a boxing gym, but hitting a punching bag is a great combination, cardio and strength exercise. However, just like the rest of us, it can only take so much of a beating before it drops.

The club became efficient when they decide to remove the chains from the bag and use it for personal training. The timed lifts for short distances are extremely helpful to the personal training department and its clients. It allows them to simulate the flipping of a large tire indoors, without the possibility of hurting anyone.

The only thing the club may need to do now is buy a new punching bag. Although, flipping the punching bag may become a fad, and they may find more members trying to take down the bag to do flip routines.
