Chicago-based Fitness Formula Clubs Expands ‘FFC Cares’ Efforts

Fitness Formula Clubs in Chicago has taken part in several philanthropic movements so far this year and is preparing for their largest fund raising effort, “Clubs for the Cure” supporting the fight against ALS/Augie’s Quest. FFC is Chicago’s largest private group of health clubs in the city, currently totaling 12 locations.

A team of Personal Trainers from FFC Oak Park have been visiting a nearby housing unit for abused, neglected and abandoned children called Hephzibah twice a month. Hephzibah offers a variety of children’s services, but the trainers were asked specifically to work with children in long-term residence there.  When the FFC trainers visit, the children complete fun and varied fitness activities, while learning about the importance of fitness and how it can not only improve their health, but also improve their self-esteem and confidence. The relationship between the trainers and children continues to blossom since the program was initiated earlier this winter.

For a number of years, FFC has donated equipment to the New Creation Gym in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The revenue the gym generates allows it to serve as the area’s community center and assists many low-income families with meal service and job placement. Individuals who cannot afford the subsidized membership can volunteer at the center and receive a free membership. New Creation is an outgrowth of the Willow Creek Community Church ministry, Chicagoland’s largest non-affiliated Church. This spring FFC donated a large number of used fitness equipment to the Santo Domingo gym. A representative from New Creation wrote in a letter to FFC, “These donations have been crucial to the success of our operation, which sustains some very special ministries for our community.”
