Snap Fitness Acquires Kosama, Plans to Expand Group Fitness Franchise
Share on FacebookShare on LinkedIn

Snap Fitness, a franchise with more than 1,200 fitness centers located around the world, has partnered with Kosama Complete Body Transformation, a group training franchise that appeals to members at every fitness level.

“[The acquisition] is something that we’re very excited about,” said Bob Kral, President of Kosama. “Its an association we wanted.” The program costs $299 for an eight-week session, and the new partnership won’t change that. The program will allow members to take a variety of classes in six different disciplines, including active-yoga, kettlebells, cardio-kickboxing, plyometrics, upper-body strength and lower-body strength.

“We asked the question, ‘what’s a trend and what’s a fad?” said Patrick Strait, the communications manager for Snap Fitness. “[Kosama] is definitely something we think is going to be long-term successful.” According to Kral, Kosama has already grown from one location to 20 since 2010, and can be found in Iowa, Nebraska, Arizona, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota and Wisconsin.  “We already have a plan in place to open up more [Kosama] locations,” said Strait.

Strait believes that group fitness classes are so appealing to members due to the variety and the motivation that group classes provide. “The group fitness base is one of the fastest growing markets,” said Strait. Snap Fitness plans to use that growth potential in order to continue to expand Kosama from its current locations to 75 to 100 by the end of 2012.

“[Group fitness] is fun,” said Kral. “The whole group fitness feeling and the team you get with it is a very special environment.”

The special environment that Kosama provides will not immediately be offered to Snap Fitness members in the form of a joint membership. However, according to Strait, there are plans to offer them in the future. Snap Fitness has plans to continue to franchise Kosama separately from Snap.

“We hope to have individual Kosama’s, and have Snap and Kosama’s side by side,” said Kral.

The name, Kosama, is derived from the combination of the first two initials of the co-founders first names, Kory Pohlman, Sarah Pohlman and Matt Braet.

Lorinda, Kosama will be a separate space designated just for their program/training. It will require a big enough Snap Fitness to combine the two, or simply its own separate retail location. The photo above is a brand new Kosama, with its own retail location.
