The newest asset to your club has been revealed through mainstream media this past week. A slew of articles have come to light discussing over-weight clubs in Canada and emerging trends in the U.S.
Some commenter’s have contended that these clubs aren’t fair and owners shouldn’t be allowed to restrict healthy/fit people from using the club. Truthfully, it’s their business, not the commenter’s, and they can provide services to whomever they choose.
However, with our obesity crisis on the rise, this might be an opportunity for you to fill that space you’ve been brainstorming about. Spend a little extra money (I know, scary) and fill an extra room with weights, machines, treadmills and TVs. Call the new space “The Success Room,” and promote it as judgment-free area of your club where people can drop weight and feel healthy.
In The Success Room, force people that desire to use it to go through a consultation from a trainer. If they need to lose 50 pounds or more, they qualify and get a special entrance tag that they will use to get into the space. Your overweight population can use the space to exercise without the fear of wandering eyes.
There won’t be much different about your Success Room than the space you specify as your women’s-only area. You are simply reaching out to a demographic in our society that needs a little special attention. Not only will you receive a whole slew of members, but you’ll also increase your personal training programs, nutrition programs and membership. Not to mention, once your new members achieve success, they will meander out onto your regular club floor and make room for new people that need help.
By providing services for people from over weight, to pristine fitness, you’ll truly be making an impact on our society, as well as increasing your club’s reach into the community.
