GoodLife Fitness, Canada’s largest club chain, has acquired Extreme Fitness Inc.’s 13 locations, bringing the total number of GoodLife Fitness clubs in Canada to over 300.
David Patchell-Evans, the CEO and founder of GoodLife Fitness, founded GoodLife Fitness in 1979. According to Patchell-Evans, he is extremely happy with how GoodLife has grown, and he attributes the chain’s success to its member-oriented focus. “GoodLife has grown because we pay attention to our members,” he said.
Patchell-Evans explained that the acquisition of Extreme Fitness allows GoodLife Fitness to better serve Canadians in Greater Toronto and surrounding areas. “Our goal is to give every Canadian the opportunity to live a healthier life,” he said. “Extreme Fitness had good clubs with good locations, and the acquisition seemed like a good opportunity.”
Extreme Fitness’ clubs officially became GoodLife Fitness locations on April 1, 2013, and will now offer Les Mills group exercise classes, which are exclusive to GoodLife Fitness in Canada. “At first, [members] go, ‘well what happened?’” said Patchell-Evans. “However, I think in the long run they’ll really like the transition.”
