“Survival of the fittest” will take on a whole new meaning this week at participating Town Sports International (TSI) health clubs. The chain will roll out Hunger Games-inspired workouts in honor of the “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” movie premier, for both members and non-members, free of charge.
New York Sports Clubs, part of TSI, unveiled its first “Train Like a Tribute” workout last year during the premier of the first Hunger Games film, which details a dystopian society in which “tributes” are forced to fight to the death. The workouts last year included both high-intensity cardio and strength training. A circuit-style workout also threw in unforeseen “obstacles” to mimic the movie — members would have to climb up a TRX® rope in the middle of their regimen to avoid simulated animal attacks, for example.
This year, participating clubs will offer similar Hunger Games-inspired workouts, but will bump up the intensity. Characters in “Catching Fire” had to participate in a tougher version of the “Games” in a more difficult setting (the “Arena”). To mimic that, participating clubs are hosting “Train Like a Tribute” workouts within TSI’s signature “UXF Zones,” or functional training zones.
Just like in the Hunger Games, the workouts at participating TSI clubs will be in a competitive format, and the members who complete the most circuits during the given time period will be named the “Mocking Jay” winner in honor of the main movie character, Katniss Everdeen. Last year, NYSC gave away mocking jay pins like the one Everdeen carried with her in the first film.
“Train Like a Tribute” workouts started on November 25, 2013, and will last through December 2013. For the full schedule and list of participating TSI locations, visit: http://www.mysportsclubs.com/events/current/Train_Like_a_Tribute.htm.
