With the advent of functional fitness, alternative fitness machines and full-body fitness, it is harder than ever to keep members engaged with traditional cardio and strength equipment. So the question becomes — what changes can you make to enhance your members’ experience?
The Unicoi County Family YMCA of Erwin, Tenn., added the Brewer’s Ledge Laddermill to its equipment floor, in order to do just that — enhance its members’ experience. Joe Ebarb, the club’s executive director, explained why he thought this particular piece of equipment was a good fit.
CS: Can you tell us a little bit about your club?
JE: We are the Unicoi County Family YMCA of Erwin, Tenn. We have been in existence since 1925 serving Unicoi County. We currently have over 2,500 members in a small community, which allows us to be one of the main focal points of our town. We offer adult and youth programs along with a fitness center, gym and indoor pool.
CS: How were you introduced to Brewer’s Ledge?
JE: I first met with Brewer’s Ledge reps at our national YMCA alliance meeting in July 2013. I really had no challenges working with Brewer’s Ledge — once I showed information to my board, we were all excited to have the Laddermill become part of our fitness center.
CS: What do your members think of Brewer’s Ledge, and how does it benefit them?
JE: Our members seem to really enjoy this equipment as something new and challenging for their fitness regiment. By offering new equipment (we are the first in the Southeast to have a Laddermill), we can keep members interested in participating in our fitness room. Brewer’s Ledge was very professional and easy to work with.
CS: Is there anything else about the partnership you’d like to add?
JE: They have helped by renewing members interest and adding new members by using their new product. We wanted something new for our members to get excited about and also attract new members’ interest. [The] greatest benefit is the full-body workout the Laddermill provides.
The Treadwall rotating rock climbing wall has long been a staple for providing the most variable and customizable platform for full-body fitness. The new Laddermill refines that concept into a simpler, smaller unit, with many of the same great results.
