Wearable technology (wrist trackers, heart-rate monitors, etc.) entered the 21st century at break-neck speed and has proved it’s here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. However, in what exact form is too soon to tell. Here, Weilong Li, the president of Accuro, chats about wearable technology and how his company is staying on the cutting edge of the trend.
CS: For those that don’t know about your company, what can you tell them about it? What benefits can your company bring to their facility?
WL: Accuro is committed to providing comprehensive solutions to the club’s need for member’s best in-club training experience, and offer easy, reliable and discrete bio-data capturing, storage and analysis services.
CS: How is your company different from competitors with similar products or services?
WL: We provide a customized system that best works with each club’s program and target audience. We private label all the wearable network products for the club so as to enhance the member retention and help to promote the club brand. We also provide a comprehensive range of bio-data measuring devices to make the system complete and vertically integrated.
CS: From your experience how has wearable technology impacted the fitness industry, including heart-rate monitors?
WL: Wearable technology has allowed the workout intensity to be monitored in real time. Among the many reasons discouraging people from continuously participating in workout programs, the most common one is the “fatigue” feeling after an overly intense workout. Sore muscles will be a good reason to cancel the next trip back to the club. The right amount of exercise, however, will make you feel rejuvenated, energized and have limited sore muscles to recover from. A good trainer can offer advice and help you control the exercise load according to the trainer’s knowledge about you. However, the trainer is limited by his or her time and lack of knowledge of trainee’s fitness level in a short period of time.
The heart rate monitor technology has freed these limitations by offering quantified data to the trainer and trainee to know the intensity of the workout in real time. Now, one trainer can train a group of members to achieve just the right dose of exercise that can yield a much more pleasant workout experience. Even the members can monitor the intensity of their workout on their own, as the heart rate data is continuously displayed on screens that are easy to understand. The group training program has become more popular, since the heart rate monitoring system has become more sophisticated and inexpensive. This technology is the foundation of future “precision workout” programs.
CS: What advice can you give to clubs looking to incorporate heart-rate tracking into their facilities? How can they know this is a good move?
WL: Implementing a heart rate monitoring and projecting system is the best thing a club can do for their members. A good monitoring system requires that all the member’s bio-data be captured and presented to them in a clean professional report. In order to do this, it is vital that club owners set up the infrastructure to include bio-data measurement at the beginning stages of system implementation. In the long run it will save the club money and time. Club owners need to keep in mind that a Heart Rate Projection system does not capture all of their member’s bio-data. After all, you need to have measurable data to track their progress and judge the effectiveness of your member’s workout. Bio data measurement devices that should be included in the system are our wireless weight scale, Bluetooth body fat scale, WIFI body composition analyzer, Bluetooth blood pressure meter and so on.
CS: What can consumers look forward to from your company in the future?
WL: We have our ears and eyes focused on club operators, trainers and members. We will constantly improve our system and products according to their feedback. We will also utilize the vast amount of bio-data to gain inside knowledge of human exercise behavior so as to provide leading technology products that will deliver a more precise and effective workout experience.
