Operations: The Top 5 Ways to Change More Lives

Imagine if your members could get paid for being healthy, without taking money out of your pocket. Well now they can, thanks to the app Wellcoin.

With Wellcoin, users’ healthy behaviors are rewarded with free products, discounts and experiences. For example, every time a user eats a healthy meal, gets at least 7 hours of sleep, or goes for run, they can log the activity in exchange for coins. Those coins can then be redeemed for items such as a $10 gift card.

The app is free for users. And according to Dr. Glenn Laffel, co-founder of Wellcoin, the company plans to keep it that way.

“It always will be free for users,” Laffel told the Boston Business Journal. “The way we earn money is when a member redeems a reward, we take a commission from the partner that provided the reward.”

When a user’s healthy activity is verified by a “trusted source,” such as a personal trainer, the activity is worth even more coins.

The app isn’t just log-and-reward based. It also promotes connectivity and social engagement, by rewarding activities that are verified by those in your network. This taps into the basic human need to be recognized and rewarded for our hard work.

With this in mind, how could you do something similar at your gym? For example, O2 Fitness has a rewards-based program that offers points for gym visits, that can be exchanged for discounts at the O2 Fitness store or local businesses. In turn, O2 Fitness has reported better engagement and retention.

Or, could you use the already developed Wellcoin to your advantage? Consider encouraging members to sign up for the app, and have your personal trainers act as trusted sources to verify healthy behaviors. As a result, your members will be more apt to keep being healthy on their minds, and hopefully see better results.

Stay ahead in the fitness industry with exclusive updates!
