Who you trust as your risk management partner can have a huge impact on your club’s future. Here, Tom Fiorini, a general manager at Cincinnati Sports Club, explained why The Cincinnati Insurance Company has been the right partner for the facility.

CS: How were you introduced to The Cincinnati Insurance Company, and why did you decide to partner with them?

TF: After 15 years with the same carrier, we were approached by a local independent agent who represented The Cincinnati Insurance Company. Our rates had steadily declined, and we only had one payout claim in 20 years, so we were satisfied with our insurance at the time — so we thought. We didn’t know what we didn’t know. Cincinnati Insurance proposed broader coverage, a multi-year premium commitment and a process to mitigate our risks, which has been a game-changer for the Cincinnati Sports Club.

CS: What are the benefits to your business as a result of this partnership?

TF: Cincinnati team members provide excellent input at our quarterly risk management meetings, which includes reviewing existing emergency protocols and proposing new measures for consideration. We also conduct regular reviews of our incident reports to identify trends. Brian Rawlings, the program manager from Cincinnati’s Target Markets division, draws from his prior experience as a health club manager to help us analyze claim trends specific to our industry.

CS: What are the benefits to your members as a result of this partnership?

TF: Our management team serves as stewards to the company, and we have a responsibility to our members, employees and investors to protect the club. As our risk management partner, Cincinnati has provided invaluable advice about best practices for risk management, which in turn creates a safer, more enjoyable environment for everyone who comes here.

CS: Have you been pleasantly surprised by working with The Cincinnati Insurance Company in any way?

TF: Cincinnati has kept its promise to be a consistent resource and true partner for the Club. In business today, talk is talk – but they’ve definitely walked the walk. They have connected us with other top performers in the health club industry, who have been more than willing to collaborate and share general best practices.

CS: What else can you tell other club owners about the benefits of working with The Cincinnati Insurance Company?

TF: Running a business in America today is tougher than ever. It is reassuring to have an insurance carrier that understands the concerns of health club owners, and can manage the costs and benefits of risk management.
